Food:
Raw and Fresh Feeding:
After a deep dive into the research on the scientific and behavioural benefits of raw feeding, we made the switch in 2012—and haven’t looked back since.
Oslo transitioned to a raw and fresh diet at age 10 and thrived on it for the rest of his life. Our girls have been raised on raw and fresh food since they joined us at 8 weeks old, and it's the only way they've ever eaten since arriving in our home.
We’ve seen first-hand the benefits of this healthy, species appropriate diet. Favourite links to raw and fresh food suppliers and vitamins are:

LENNYS KITCHEN (Easy raw feeding & Vitamins)
https://lennyskitchen.com/pages/welcome-to-lenny-s-kitchen
A great "muesli" mix packed full of vitamins and nutrients, you simply soak in water for 5mins then add fresh mince per instructions and quantities on the packaging. Super easy and our go-to when we are too time poor to 100% DIY. Your puppies will have been eating this while in our care after being weaned.
We also use their "Health Booster" vitamins to add when we are DIYing our raw food meals.

CANINE COUNTRY (BARF rolls)
Official website: https://caninecountry.com.au/our-products/barf-rolls/

MY DOGGIE BOOSTERS (Vitamins)
An Australian company run by a canine nutritionist and one of the admins of the below FB group. We love all their vitamins

Toys:
Mental and Physical Stimulation
For puppies (and dogs of all ages), toys are not just about fun—they’re essential tools for mental stimulation, physical development, and emotional well-being.
Especially in the puppy stage, when everything is new and exciting, toys help your young Elkhound learn, explore, and burn energy in all the right ways. Here are some favourites and we suggest shopping around to find the best deals!

KONG toys:
Full range here: https://www.kongcompany.com/catalogue/
We particularly like their rubber Kongs (which also has a softer rubber puppy range our Elkies have always loved) and the Kong Wobbler for fun and enrichment!

LICKIMAT slow feeders:
Full range here: https://lickimat.com/collections/dogs
We actually use lickimats instead of dog bowls for all our dogs - takes them a bit longer to eat their meals and adds a bit of enrichment! Great for puppies too!

FUZZY DOG TUG TOYS:
Full range here: https://fuzzydogtugtoys.com.au/
We love these tug toys made from soft fabric and so do our dogs! Great for play, and the lovely Emily that owns the company has a soft spot for Elkhounds too!

Other Norwegian Elkhound Breeders:
These (still active) breeders I have had the pleasure of personally meeting with, we have received a puppy from, or in some been a part of our Elkhound journey. I am always keen to help foster a friendly dog community, particularly with a dog breed like the Norwegian Elkhound in Australia where numbers are currently so limited. If you would like to have your name added here, please drop me a line!
